Should I hire a moving company or do it myself?
Doing a long distance relocation yourself can often cost more than
employing the services of
backloading removalists. There are many expenses involved like
hiring a truck, diesel, km's travelled, and the time to load and
unload your own furniture plus returning the truck. Professional
furniture removalists carry specialised equipment and know how to
stack and pack and furniture removals truck so as to minimise the
risk of any damages that may occur as well.
How do moving companies charge?
It depends on the moving companies, however interstate moving
companies generally charge using the following formula.
Volume of furniture (in cubic meters) X rate (per cubic meter) + any
access charges.
Local removals companies generally charge an hourly rate from depot
to depot or door to door plus travel time.
When is the best time to move?
November through to February is usually the busiest time for
interstate furniture removalists. If you can move outside of this
peak-season, then you will obtain a better price for your
relocation.
Do I need insurance?
Transit insurance is optional and is highly recommended. Just as you
would insure your home and contents whilst in your house, you should
insure them whilst they are being moved, as this is the time where
damage is more likely going to happen.
Can I pack my own boxes?
Many moving companies have a pre packing service available, although
it usually costs extra. If you can pack your own boxes you will save
money.
Can I move my plants?
It does depend on the moving company you select, however plants are
generally not accepted on the moving trucks. They can be awkward to
stack, pack and secure in the vehicle which then creates the risk of
dirt being tipped in the vehicle, which would not be good for your
furniture.
