FAQ's
What is the benefit of using this website?
1 form, 2 minutes, 3 quotes or more. Its that
simple!
Who are we?
The
Interstate Removalists Australia Directory has been
created by interstate removalists for the interstate
removals industry. Our aim is to provide people who are
moving interstate easy access to a large membership of
removalists Australia wide. Essentially saving you time
in obtaining quotes from numerous moving companies
whilst providing a wider market reach for our furniture
removals members.
How does it work?
You can browse through the dat6abase of interstate
removalists by using the map above. Or you can submit
your interstate
removals enquiry to our members by completing the
easy to use, removals quote request form. From their
your request is automatically sent to our members who
can then contact you directly to discuss your
requirements further (if required) and send you a quote.
Nothing is completely free! What's the catch?
This Interstate Removalists database is free for
consumers to submit their enquiries and free for
removalists to join. We subsidise the costs of running
this site by selling a few advertising positions which
you will see throughout the website. These adverts are
generally located on the right hand side of the site.
What do we do
with your details?
When you submit your details on the
removals quote request form,
your details are automatically sent via email to our
members, who can then send a quote to you. We do not
sell your enquiry like other "Lead Generation" type
websites do. This website is free for use by people who
are moving interstate and furniture removalists to join.
How much will a removalist cost?
The cost of your furniture removals will vary
greatly depending on a range of variables, like:
Where are you moving to and from?
What is the size of your load is, or the size of truck
required.
What is the access like at your home?
Do you require packing, storage, car transport, moving
boxes?
Are you looking for a personalised interstate removals
service or a discount backloading service?
If you would like a rough idea, visit our
Estimated Costs for
Removals section which can be quite helpful.
What happens if I'm only moving a few things?
Then it is probably best for you to select an
interstate backloading
removalist service. This will be more cost effective
for you although you may have to be flexible with the
dates of collection and delivery for your goods.
How long will my furniture take to get there?
Once again this will vary greatly depending on the
type of service you have selected to go with, as well as
where you are moving to and moving from. A professional
interstate removals company may generally be a bit
quicker with the transit time of your goods but is not
going to be as cost effective as a backloading
removalist who may require a bit more flexibility with
regards to dates and times.
How much space is in a
removals truck?
Trucks vary in size and most companies have a few
different sizes available to suit the different
requirements of their clients. If you are moving locally
(one suburb to another) and have a 1 bedroom apartment,
then a company is likely to use a smaller vehicle which
can park closer to the building. If you are moving a 4
bedroom house interstate, then generally a larger
removals truck will be used.
Will there be any
paperwork?
Yes. You should also request a formal written quote
from a removalist which should also stipulate the terms
and conditions of contract & carriage. You should retain
a copy or be provided with a copy of the inventory for
your furniture removals upon collection and this should
be checked off when your goods are delivered.
When
is the best time to move?
From November through to the beginning of February
is the busy period in the furniture removals industry.
During this time, available space on trucks becomes
limited which drives pricing up. If you do have to move
during this period, we suggest you obtain quotes and
book your removal with as much notice as possible. If
you can change your dates to move interstate outside
this period, then this will save you time and money.
Is it ok if I pack my own boxes?
Most people these days choose to pack their own
moving boxes rather than getting the removalist or a
professional pre packing company to do it for them.
Whilst this will save a few dollars "PBO" or "Packed By
Owner" boxes are
generally not covered under any insurance policy which
you may have taken out for your relocation. Although you
should check this for yourself as insurance policies are
different from company to company.
When should I
contact the moving company?
The sooner the better. The more lead time a removals
company has to organise your relocation the better
chance you will be able to have collection and delivery
made on your preferred dates.
Should I hire a
moving company or do it myself?
Doing a long distance relocation yourself can often
cost more than employing the services of backloading
removalists. There are many expenses involved like
hiring a truck, diesel, km's travelled, and the time to
load and unload your own furniture plus returning the
truck. Professional furniture removalists carry
specialised equipment and know how to stack and pack the
removals truck so as to minimise the risk of any damages
that may occur as well.
How do moving companies
charge?
Most interstate moving companies generally charge
using the following formula.
Volume of furniture (in cubic meters) X rate (per cubic
meter) + any access charges.
Local removals companies generally charge an hourly rate
from depot to depot or door to door plus travel time.
Do I need insurance?
Just as you would insure your home and contents
whilst in your house, you should insure them whilst they
are being moved, as this is the time where damage is
more likely going to happen. Most items of furniture are
not manufactured in a manner to withstand the numerous
humps and bumps which will be incurred during long
distance travel. By using a furniture removalist who
knows how to pack your items into a truck safely and who
has furniture pads and blankets to protect your goods,
the risk of damage will be minimised.
Can I move my
plants?
It does depend on the moving company you select,
however plants are generally not accepted on the
removals trucks. They can be awkward to stack, pack and
secure in the vehicle which then creates the risk of
dirt being tipped in the vehicle, which would not be
good for your furniture. Some states (like Western
Australia) also have very strict policies about moving
plants into or out of the state.
